My History

I started working with natural materials about 30 years ago when I served a joinery apprenticeship on my father’s firm. I was fortunate to be working for one of the few firms that were still doing bespoke joinery, using techniques and skills that were passed down from the centuries before.

Changing World

However, when I looked at the industry at large, I saw a changing world. Many of the skills that were being passed on to me were being phased out and materials replaced with mass produced alternatives. So while the world around continued to look forward, I decided to look back.

I moved away from commercial joinery, and took up a career in sound engineering. My interest in woodworking became a hobby as I  turned towards carving. My interest in the natural world drew me towards the world of bushcraft – which is where many of the skills I had learned were born.

Never Look Back

At some point I built myself a bushcraft knife, it wasn’t great, but of course needed a sheath. So that lead me to venture down a path into leatherwork.

I strongly believe that old skills need to be kept alive or they will be lost. Just as I believe that we cannot afford the disposable way we live in the world, or that too will be lost. So I now combine those beliefs with my skills, to offer ethically sourced, hand made alternatives.

There is of course a story behind the Stealth Hippy name…but if I were to tell you that, it just wouldn’t be, well, stealthy
